Drip - Jamie Bradbury

One thing I'm pretty sure about Jamie is he likes the BEEP command. The beginning of this game is no exception. If you listen with your ears half closed and off at a slant, the intro could sound like water running down a pipe. If so that is appropriate for the game is about water, or more precisely, a drip of water.

This has to be one of the more Zen entries the accompanying email contains highlights like

"Has there been a steady drip of terrible games?

Has it all been downhill?

All these thoughts inspired me to make this game - Drip!

...

Drip all the way to the bottom to win! Use the diagonals when needed."

It even includes a haiku

"Drip's life is random
Drips can end in an ocean.
Can drips make you think?"

Is anyone capable of rational thought at the end of judging a CGC?

The Zen feeling continues with the Intro page, but does it continue beyond that?

The game itself consists of randomly placed magenta squares moving up the screen while you move left or right to avoid them.

And that is it. If you die you get told YOU DIED and offered an extremely random score.

If you win you get told YOU DID IT and the same merry beep sequence from the game start. At which point you are sent back to do it all again.

The basic minimalism might also be very Zen or just a bit crap.

I'll end with a haiku of my own

this is not water
dripping passed magenta blocks
more crap incoming

Technical Ability - 10%

Only scores so high for the inclusion of a Haiku.

Achievement - 75%

A random achievement score to match the in game scoring.

Fun - 5%

Very little.

Crap Factor - 75%

Does what it does. But I know Mr Bradbury can do better.

Roundup

Pros -

  • Zen feel.
  • Beeps.

Cons -

  • Yes.
